As of today, it is official, Acer has moved into second place in terms of global share of the PC market. For the quarter ending September 30, according to Gardner Group here is the ranking:
HP (19.9%)
Acer (15.4%)
Dell (12.8%)
Lenovo (8.5%)
Toshiba (5.0%)
So while Michael Dell is bashing netbooks and wishing that customers would return to purchasing higher [...]
Last Tuesday, at a industry dinner in Silicon Valley, Michael Dell said this about netbooks:
“Take a user who’s used to a 15-inch notebook and then give him a 10-inch netbook. He’ll say ‘Oh, this is so cool, it’s so lightweight.’ Then 36 hours later he’ll say the screen’s not big enough, give me my 15-inch [...]
Qualcomm has been releasing some very nice videos showing their new Snapdragon processor in use.
There looks to be several different Smartbooks being released this year that will be using the Snapdragon.
One of the things to watch for in the videos is the different sizes of these tablet-based Smartbooks. I’m not sure what flavor of OS [...]
I’ve been watching the Smartbook Market very closely over the last few months. Qualcomm and NVIDIA are both getting ready to launch the Snapdragon, and Tegra CPUs.
I’ve seen lots of videos and have heard price points as low as $150.00 for a device that can play 720p high-definition video.

Sharp has announced the introduction in Japan of a smartbook with a 5″ display named PC-Z1.
Sharp is officially calling the PC-Z1 a “mobile internet tool” (avoiding the smartbook label) and claims that it is “as easy to handle as a mobile phone and that has performance similar to that of a PC.”
